rainy day
it’s
been cloudy all week.
we
motored across the channel
in
a light spit.
as
we approached Great Harbour
the
spit turned to rain,
and
as we pulled in to anchor
a
squall came through
pouring
and blowing hard.
nothing
to do but get wet!
(and
get the rain jackets)
we
got the anchor set
on
an extra long chain,
got
the side shades dropped
to
try and keep the cockpit dry
(it
helped, but not enough),
changed
out of soggy clothes,
dried
wet hair and
settled
in for a rainy afternoon
a
hot mug of soup helped.
an
hour with a good book
was
even better.
the
rain came and went
through
the day
but
the clouds stayed put.
later
we watched a glorious sunset,
cooked
breakfast for dinner –
sausage,
fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, sliced tomatoes –
and
sat inside to eat
for
the first time in 6 months.
it
was even cool enough for long pants!
after
supper
we
got out the guitar and drum
and
spent a magical half-hour
singing
together --
“in the early morning
rain…”
“how the winds are
laughing…”
it’s
always such a stunning surprise
when
two voices intertwine
and
turn a bit of play into music.
or
when a rainy day
gets
you laughing at yourself
(instead
of grumbling)
and
becomes a rare gift.
