comedy of errors
after showers at the marina
Dave stopped by the bar to
watch some basketball
so I took the shower bags
back to the boat
and told him to order me a
beer, I’d be right back
I hung up the towels
put the soap and shampoo
away
pulled out some food for
dinner
and was stepping back into
the dinghy
when all hell broke loose
I dropped my iPad in the
water!
couldn’t quite reach it
(still floating)
so I jumped in after it
(so much for that shower!)
pulled myself out
tore off my wet clothes
went inside to inspect the
damage
when I took the case off
I realized it wasn’t very
wet
even better, it was still
working!
so I dried it off
thoroughly
opened a few apps just to
make sure
powered it off and on again
—
definitely working, whew!!
—
and took a deep breath
then I took another quick
shower
got dressed again
and it dawned on me I’d
left the dinghy
with its line only loosely
hung over a cleat
so I raced back outside
to see it had only drifted
back a few yards
and was still attached —
whew! a second time
the dinghy and I finally
made it back to the marina
where Dave was wondering what
on earth had kept me
took the iPad along to keep
an eye on it
and after I’d told him the
whole story
it dawned on me the
charging port
probably got salt water inside it
so back we go to the boat to plug in
the charging cord
and sure enough… no power
no amount of drying,
blowing, wiping, dusting, air-brushing,
not even the rice-in-a-bag
treatment, helped
and an online chat with
Apple yielded only a —
bring it in next month when you get home
and maybe we can fix it
so for now,
the iPad is packed to go
home
(16% of its power still left)
it’s not dead,
but its comatose
and may be terminally ill
guess I’ll stop by the
marina office
and borrow some paperbacks
to read for the next month

Sorry for the bad ending. :( Surely you'll find some good reads. :) OOXX'S
ReplyDeleteHahaaahaa - Paradise Lost might be a good read about now. So sorry about your iPad :(
ReplyDeleteRough lesson--learned when my iPhone went in String Lake in Teton Park. Rule #1: Do NOT plug in until totally dry. It's the plugging in that fries it. Too bad you didn't ask me! smile Sorry for the outcome, but happy you will be home soon and it's not the only game in town. Love to you both.
