hammock

we got the hammock hung finally --
from mast to bow spreader
over the trampoline
just a skinny multi-colored string mesh
but cozy and very secure

I lay in it awhile after dinner
mesmerized by the stars –
magnificent Orion
and others whose names I do not know
in a deep black sky,
with a million more tiny lights
twinkling in between
from worlds away --
they are amazing!

the boat’s movement on the water
keeps the hammock constantly swinging
rocking me gently
it’s like I am flying
not fully subject to the ground rules
either of land or of water
but suspended in air
riding the unique rhythms of the wind

it is peaceful swinging like this
there are secrets in the stars
to be unlocked
I could lay here forever!
