Sleep
we took our friends to the
ferry
motored back to the marina
did 5 loads of laundry
and were in bed by 8
o’clock
there was a midnight call
from our daughter
(got her time zones
confused)
and some pillow talk at 2
am
but 12 welcome hours of
sleep --
I guess we needed it!
we did a lot of sailing the
last 4 days,
and with experienced company
aboard
we both learned a lot –
about docking, lines,
chartplotters
plus I think I can finally
tie a bowline
(thank you, mike!)
but the winds were high
and carried some rain
including a 30-knot squall
that caught us on the open
water
with both sails up –
about 20 hairy minutes!
when we saw the second
squall up ahead
we turned downwind to avoid
it
for now I am disproportionately
grateful
for clean sheets and dry towels
for calm and sleep and “home”

Penns’ Landing Marina
Marney and Dave, I love reading the poems and prose on your blog (although I must admit I'm relieved it's you and not me having this adventure)! You have different ways with words, both equally insightful. I join the many traveling with you. Ann LaMar
