Day One

with light winds and the sun shining

we had a lovely sail

downwind to St. John

we dinghied into Cruz Bay

and learned the immigration routine

(crowded place, on water and on land)

we bought our national parks pass,

picked up a ball in Hawksnest Bay

and played all afternoon –

swam to the near shore to snorkel

paddleboarded to the farther shore

for a walk on the beach

we got our exercise in

and then rested in the shade

on the bow of the boat

as the sun began to set

in lots of ways it felt like

the first day of our adventure!

no repairs,

no boat chores,

no company,

just the two of us

off on a 3-day explore.

so we drank a toast

and watched the sky go pink!
